Official Statement: The Future of The Sharing Center

Recently, The Sharing Center’s Board of Directors and our President/CEO, Nina Yon, have been criticized on social media regarding changes that have taken place at the agency.

We understand and celebrate the legacy of The Sharing Center and acknowledge the difficulty any organization experiences with a change in leadership after 33 years.

We believe it is time to defend The Sharing Center from the hostile tone and misinformation that has been published on social media by a former staff member.

We want to make clear that the mission as well as the heart and soul of our agency has not changed whatsoever. Our mission continues to be preventing hunger and homelessness in Seminole County.

When our founding CEO stepped into a well-earned retirement, The Board of Directors selected a new leader with the ability to help the center continue to build and expand upon its original vision. The President/CEO was charged with expanding the existing services that we provide to the ALICE (Asset Limited Income Constrained Employed) population in our community and to improve the financial stability of the organization to meet those demands.

Under Nina Yon’s leadership this past year, The Sharing Center has expanded the number, range and types of services offered to better serve our neighbors in need. A new leader following in the footsteps of the founding CEO is rarely an easy transition. While some legacy staff members have chosen to leave, others have embraced the changes and vision for the future.

We applaud the staff of The Sharing Center for the essential services that they have provided to our community while adapting on the fly to overcome obstacles that have been presented during the COVID pandemic. In order to serve our constituents and this community, we need to grow. The Board of Directors remain committed to its strategy, it’s decision-making and to provide the services needed to meet the growing population in our county.

Misrepresentations about the internal workings of what is a well-run and impactful organization are unfair.

We invite the entire community to come visit The Sharing Center and see firsthand the work that our staff and CEO are doing.  Please feel free to reach out to our Board of Directors by sending an email to inquiry@thesharingcenter.org, request a tour of our campus or an overview of our plans for the future.

If you are looking to make a positive difference in the lives of others who are in need of a hand up please ask us about volunteer opportunities. There is a place for you here.

Sincerely,

The Sharing Center’s Board of Directors
