Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week
Tablescapes full of baked goods, decadent desserts, and family traditions fill the final moments of the year as the season of gratitude takes center place. While holiday cheer comforts most, dinner plates overflow, and leftovers adorn countertops well past the day of Thanksgiving, the harsh reality is that 37 million Americans are suffering from hunger and 3.5 million are facing homelessness.
This critical issue is an increasing concern in our own backyard. As a result, The Sharing Center as joined the National Student Campaign Against Hunger and the National Coalition for the Homeless to participate in the impactful project that is Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week.
From November 12th to November 20th, we invite you take part in the conversation surrounding hunger and homelessness. These pressing issues have been prominent in our community for generations past, and, unfortunately, will continue to grow exponentially as the costs of living continue to pile.
Together, we can join forces and shine a light on how we can help our neighbors carry a lighter load. Throughout this moving week, we encourage you to join our efforts:
Volunteer
The Pantry serves families and individuals seeking food assistance during times of hardship. Spending a few hours of your day sorting donated items and packing grocery bags, ensures our neighbors are fed and their pantries are filled. For more information on volunteer opportunities, please visit thesharingcenter.org/volunteer.
Donate
Our mission is to provide dignified solutions to those experiencing hardships, hunger, and homelessness. However, we would not be able to share the serves we do on a regular basis without the support of our community. As a comprehensive hub of human services, we accept food, clothing, and home good donations to ensure our programs are equipped with the necessary resources to serve Seminole County. Our Distribution Center accepts donations Monday through Saturday from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, while The Pantry is open Monday through Friday between 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
Educate
We’ve created a calendar of activities to spread awareness of hunger and homelessness throughout the week. Follow along on our social media and post on your personal platforms how you are spotlighting this critical issue. Don’t forget to tag @SharingDignity and #hhweek! Our full calendar can be found on thesharingcenter.org/hhweek.
