The Sharing Center is honored to be recognized by WESH 2 as a Community Champion as we celebrate our 40th anniversary.
As part of the recognition, WESH 2 visited The Sharing Center to highlight the programs, people, and partnerships that have helped neighbors throughout Seminole County for four decades. The feature showcased The Pantry, The Oasis, our Thrift Stores, financial support, workforce development programs, and the many ways our community comes together to help those facing hardship.
During the interview, President and CEO Tekoa Pouerie reflected on what reaching 40 years means to the organization.
“Forty years would have not taken place if it wasn’t for our community partners, donors, board members, staff, and volunteers,” Pouerie shared. “It takes an entire team to make it happen.”
The story also introduced viewers to Daphne, who first came to The Sharing Center for help after experiencing a stroke and needing assistance with rent. The support she received helped her remain independent and inspired her to return as a volunteer.
“When I got the help, I wanted to give back because this place is a community of love and care,” Daphne shared.
As The Sharing Center celebrates this milestone, the need across Seminole County continues to grow. Pouerie shared that more working families, seniors on fixed incomes, and people managing disabilities are turning to The Sharing Center as rising costs of rent, groceries, and other essentials make it increasingly difficult to make ends meet.
“Our community is everything to us,” Pouerie said, emphasizing the importance of donations, volunteerism, and continued support as The Sharing Center works to meet that growing need.
This Community Champion recognition belongs to everyone who has been part of The Sharing Center’s story over the past 40 years.
Thank you to WESH 2 and Meredith McDonough for sharing our story, and thank you to every donor, volunteer, partner, staff member, board member, shopper, and supporter who continues to make this work possible.
Your support helps bring dignity, stability, and hope to neighbors throughout our community.
