Florida Blue Foundation created the Sapphire Awards to recognize excellence and innovation in community health. This award is designed to recognize long-term success and measured improvement of the health and well-being of those at the greatest risk.
We are excited to announce that Angie Romagosa, founder of The Sharing Center was selected as the Sapphire Award winner in the individual category. Angie developed an organization that provides a comprehensive framework of services to address the wide-ranging needs of the underserved population in Seminole County. While health is not the typical primary reason for clients seeking help she recognized that a person's health issues are oftentimes a contributing factor in their hardships.
Angie's work in our community spans 32 years as the founder and leader of the Christian Sharing Center in Seminole County, whose services improve the health and well-being of the underprivileged and low-income members of the community. Under her leadership the organization has grown since 1986 to serve 14,000 people in need annually.
Angie recognized that The Sharing Center was on the front line of addressing the health problems of its clients and that health issues are often a contributing factor in a client’s hardship. She understood that treating a person’s health is about treating their entire environment, so she shaped case management at The Sharing Center to go beyond handing a family a bag of groceries. Case managers are taught to get to know clients and all of the factors in their instability. As a result, its case managers have asssited clients with housing and health concerns, and other services provided by the organization and it's partners. We are proud to recognize her work.
Angie's award includes a $60,000 grant to The Christian Sharing Center. Congratulations!
