The Sharing Center Thrift Store

20 years of serving the community

In 1986 when The Sharing Center first opened its doors, one of our most popular resources for our clients was our “clothing closet." The clothing closet was pretty much that…a closet.  Back then, the entire Sharing Center operation was only 800 sf!  Although the closet was small, it was a tremendous resource that provided gently used business attire for our clients who were seeking employment or those that just started new jobs.

As the years went by The Sharing Center grew and relocated from its original location on Church Ave. in downtown Longwood (near the current SunRail station) to a shopping plaza on Ronald Reagan Boulevard in Longwood.  As The Sharing Center became more well-known, the community responded with many donations and started to give more than just clothes, including pots and pans, furniture, appliances, etc.

It soon became obvious that we did not have adequate space to store all of these donations!  We began discussing the idea of opening a thrift store as a way to outreach goods to our clients and let them shop for what they needed while creating a new way to raise money to help fund our client programs.

In 1995 we opened “Values Reborn,” an 8,500 sf thrift store located in our current plaza at 600 N. Hwy 17-92 in Longwood.  Values Reborn (later simply named The Sharing Center Thrift Store) operated out of this space for 18 years.  In 2013, we relocated the store to a freshly remodeled space in the front of the plaza.

The Sharing Center Thrift Store and Boutique is a tremendous resource to the community, not just to clients who need help with clothing and household goods, but to community shoppers who find really great deals.  Although there are a half-dozen thrift stores that have popped up within a one-mile radius of our store, our customers continue to tell us that our store is their favorite because we have fantastic merchandise in a clean, attractive space.  We owe the success of our store in part to some great staff, board and volunteer leaders over the years, our loyal and faithful shoppers, and a generous community who continues to bless us with an unbelievable array of quality donations.
